When it comes to the best TV shows of 2020, Ted Lasso reigns supreme. The Apple TV Plus comedy series starring Jason Sudeikis, co-created by Bill Lawrence and Sudeikis, won IGN’s Best TV Series, Best New TV Series and Best Comedy Series awards, and Lawrence recorded an acceptance speech to celebrate the wins, saying, “We’re so grateful that anybody gives any of their time to watch something we did. I do want to say that people should know that we’re so grateful when we read people saying nice stuff on social media or hear it out in the ethos, but we all got as much kind of hopefulness and optimism for what’s to come just by working on the show as you all were nice enough to say you got from watching it.”

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm star Maria Bakalova won IGN’s Best Lead Performance in a Movie for 2020 thanks to her role as Tutar, the daughter of Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen). Borat 2 is Bulgarian actress Bakalova’s breakout performance, and in her heart-warming acceptance speech, she said, “I am honored and thrilled to be accepting this award, especially because of this strong feminist message that Tutar sends, and also because of how much it means for diversity in casting, and for people of my region of the world, especially my fellow Bulgarians.”

Of all the best movies of 2020, Hulu’s comedy Palm Springs was something extra special. The Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti time loop flick resonated strongly with the IGN staff, earning the title of Best Movie of the Year. Director Max Barbakow recorded an acceptance speech for the recognition, saying, “Thank you for this awesome honor. … I’m so happy to accept for our cast and our crew. It was very special to make this movie, and incredibly special that you chose to honor us this year.”

Director Spike Lee delivered a tour de force with Da 5 Bloods, a Netflix movie starring an incredible ensemble including Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Chadwick Boseman, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis and Isiah Whitlock Jr. IGN recognized that powerful cast by naming Da 5 Bloods as having the Best Movie Ensemble of 2020 — and naming it one of the best movies of the year.

Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conquerer in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and star of HBO series Lovecraft Country) recorded a moving acceptance speech for the Best Ensemble award, sharing what the experience meant to him and remembering his late costar Chadwick Boseman following his death.

In a year of incredible video game performances, Laura Bailey reigned supreme. The Critical Role actress took home IGN’s Best Performance in a Game award for her portrayal of Abby in The Last of Us 2, and shared her excitement for her win in a short acceptance video. “This was a year of really powerful performances across the board, so honestly I’m just thrilled to be included in such good company,” the Last of Us star said.
