I went to a local sporting goods store recently to check prices of commercially available rubber band guns, and was shocked at the price tag of $16 for one of their cheapest models.
In addition, they wanted another $2 for a bag of specialized rubber bands for the gun.
With this method, not only can you form an instant rubber band shooter for free, but chances are you already have two of them on hand.
This is a simple elastic shooting trick you’ve probably known since elementary school. I think that’s where I first learned it myself, but in playing around with my kids recently, I wondered if the 2 extra fingers could be loaded up with rubber bands as well, and what kind of effect that would have?
Amazingly, this simple modification transforms the basic rubber band shooter into a semi-automatic version that will fire off 3 rounds on command.
I also found that releasing all the elastics at the same time can simulate a shotgun blast. So now our simple rubber band guns have 3 different modes you can play with 🙂
