Project History & More Info:

I used to live in Hawaii, and made some good friends over there. 2 years ago, one of those friends emailed me a picture of an idea she thought would be great for a summer life hack project (http://bit.ly/IBDripCatcher).

She’s made a couple herself at parties, but was dissatisfied with how often they needed to be dumped out.

I tried this idea in 2014 at a family reunion where the juice dispenser was leaking all over the kitchen floor, and it worked great. Of course it had to be emptied from time to time because it filled up rather quickly.

An idea that Judy came up with to solve this challenge was flipping the 2L bottles upside down, and using the funnel end, with a hose attached, to channel the liquid down to a bucket under the table.

While neither of us have actually tried this yet, it’s a fantastic idea, and I’ll probably test it out in the near future.

Apparently there are a few different companies who have caught onto the drip catcher concept, and made products you can buy. They may look slightly more professional, but essentially they function just the same as a cut up plastic bottle.

So why buy one, when you can just use a soda bottle you were going to throw in the garbage anyway?

By the way, they are reusable, so take the time to make it look good, and simply store it inside the cooler until your next summer party.
