أطلق عليها النقاد لقب «فراشة السينما». بدأت مشوارها الفني، في عام 1993، في فيلم «مستر دولار»، حيث جسدت شخصية «نادية»، أمام يونس شلبي، وسعاد نصر، تأليف وإخراج أحمد عبدالسلام.
بدأت معرفة الجمهور بها بعدما جسدت شخصية «ليلى» في المسلسل الكوميدي «ساكن قصادي»، 1995، إخراج إبراهيم الشقنقيري، تأليف يوسف عوف، بطولة محمد رضا، وعمر الحريري، وسناء جميل، وخيرية أحمد.
مرت بأزمة صحية بعد إصابتها بسرطان القولون أو «أرسرت فكوليتز»، ما استدعى سفرها للخارج وإجرائها عدة عمليات جراحية لاستئصال الجزء المصاب على عدة مرات، لكنها تعرضت للمعاناة حتى تم استئصال القولون كاملا واستبداله بأمعاء صناعية في لندن، وفقا لـ«العربية».
تحدثت «ميرنا» عن مرضها، قائلة، وفقا لـ«الاتحاد»: «هو من أخطر الأمراض التي تؤثر على نفسية الإنسان، وهو مرض يأكل ويحرق في المعدة والمريض ينزف كتلا من الدم، ويؤثر على الجسم في حركته ولا يعرف المريض يأكل ولا يشرب» وتضيف: «بعدها تم استئصال القولون واضطررت أن أعيش والمصران خارج بطني، ثم سافرت إلى لندن لإجراء عملية إدخال المصران داخل البطن، والآن أعيش على المسكنات والأدوية وطلب مني الأطباء في لندن السفر كل 5 شهور لإجراء الفحوصات اللازمة وتتبع حالتي بانتظام».
صرحت «المهندس» لـ«الاتحاد» أن الفنانة إلهام شاهين كانت من أكثر الأشخاص الذين وقفوا إلى جانبها في رحلة مرضها، وتقول: «عندما عدت من لندن كان أول شخصية، رأيتها بعد والدتي هي إلهام شاهين، فقد كانت تنتظرني في منزلها سهرانة ومنتظراني، ورغم مشاغلها كأنها فعلا أما حقيقية تنتظر ابنتها تعود من السفر للاطمئنان عليها وهي مدركة تماما أنها ستراها».
وعما تمثله لها تجربة مرضها، قالت: «تجربة صعبة جدا جدا حيث رأيت الموت بعيني وكنت قريبة جدا للقاء ربي والحمد لله كتب لي عمر جديد وهي أصعب تجربة قاسية خرجت منها بمكاسب، أهمها التقرب إلى الله والبحث عن رضاه بشكل دائم وان الحياة رحلة قصيرة وبحمد الله اختم القرآن الكريم باستمرار».
وقد توفت الفنانة ميرنا المهندس في المركز الطبي العالمي، يوم الأربعاء 5/8/2015، بعد تدهور حالتها الصحية في الأسابيع الأخيرة
