The tiger allegedly killed two people near the Corbett Tiger Reserve last Thursday and was captured by authorities later that day and died soon thereafter. The video shows the tiger pinned by an excavator, which the forestry department says has been used for safety reasons in operations involving the capture of other man-eating tigers. Wildlife advocates have questioned whether the tiger died as a result of injuries from apparently being crushed by the excavator. A wildlife expert told The Times of India under the condition of anonymity: “Even if the forest department felt it necessary to use an earthmover to scare the tiger, what was the need to crush the animal under it? It had already been tranquilized.” The forestry department says the animal died from injuries sustained in encounters with other tigers, but an investigation is underway.

Ten movie moments you won’t believe were faked with computers! CGI is used in almost every single movie these days, but not for the reasons you might assume. Sneaky editors behind the scenes in John Wick, Gladiator, The Social Network, Furious 7, The Theory of Everything, Ant Man, Forrest Gump, The Wolf of Wall Street, Nightcrawler, and If I Stay have fooled us into thinking that what’s happening on screen is the truth when it isn’t. Subtle CGI manipulation isn’t the norm these days, and movies are getting more and more extravagant with every year that passes. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t still people using it to lie to your face! These are ten instances of tricky post production manipulation that totally fooled us the first time.

Natural methane is bubbling up from the middle of the Earth all around the world, and this man is uncovering some of its mysteries. National Geographic Explorer Jeff Marlow is working to understand the ways of a strange deep-sea world. Marlow, a geobiologist, analyzes sediment from the ocean floor that contains secrets to forces that are shaping our planet. Around the ocean’s many seeps of methane gas live colonies of microbes that feed on the methane. The gas is a significant contributor to the greenhouse effect. Observing the interaction between the tiny life forms and their unusual food source adds to the understanding of natural climate factors.

Marlow worked with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s Alvin submersible team to study methane seeps and microbes, a project funded by the National Science Foundation. Make sure to learn more about the Alvin submersible at https://vimeo.com/album/4261384/
