SPOILER ALERT! Winter has come in the latest episode of Game of Thrones titled “The Long Night”, which featured the most extensive and consecutive battle sequence in the show’s history. While all the action and terror was unfolding, certain pieces were moving into place in order for Arya to eventually make her move against The Night King, the show’s fantastical and silent antagonist. But despite giving himself up as bait due to being the living memory of the world, did Bran have more up his sleeve during the Battle of Winterfell? This theory, coutesy of Reddit, suggests that Bran may actually be the Champion or physical embodiment of The Lord of Light and that the Night King is the Great Other’s, putting each other as equals and sworn enemies. This means that many of the events that transpired in the show, down to the introduction of the Catspaw in season 1, was planned out by Bran himself from the future, something we’ve seen teased in season 6 when a young Ned Stark seemingly heard Bran yell out. This means that all of those resurrections that have happened throughout the past few seasons, from Beric’s repeated returns to the living, Jon Snow and maybe even The Hound, were all orchestrated by Bran. What’s more, is that part of this theory actually stems from knowledge from Martin himself and that information has yet to make it into the show explicitly. Armed with this critical piece of information that was made public in 2017 in an interview and suddenly, we get a whole new picture of the events around Bran and for the series as a whole.
