Coming Soon to Tentpole Town? – CineFix Now Roundtable

If the rapidly approaching release of Avengers: Age of Ultron hasn’t clued you in, the film industry is on something of a comic book kick. Which we dig. But what’s Hollywood’s next target for adaptation? Subscribe: http://goo.gl/9AGRm

The CineFix team gathers around our (very small) round table to discuss the formats we think are rife for adaptation next.

There’s always toys… Transformers isn’t going away any time soon, and this week, Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body, Whip it) has signed on to write the Barbie movie. Which is an interesting/unexpected combination if we’ve ever heard of one: http://goo.gl/sOs4Lw

Also, Video Games: Hitman Agent 47 and a Ratchet and Clank movies are out this year, and next year’s got some huge potential with Assasin’s Creed, Warcraft, Resident Evil (and Angry Birds), we may be about to enter the age of video game movies that don’t massively suck. Maybe!

There’s certainly a YA streak going on, with The Hunger Games, Divergent, and the Maze Runner movies doing quite well for themselves. The Fault in Our Stars wasn’t tentpole franchise material because [SPOILERS] but Hollywood is certainly taking notice of the YA genre.

But there’s more! Old Cartoons (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)! Fanfiction (aka Fifty Shades of Grey), Anime (Ghost in the Shell is forthcoming…), THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!

What do you think is the next age of blockbusters will be? What do you think of Diablo Cody writing a Barbie story? What cartoon from your childhood would you most like to see be given a live-action re-boot? Do you think Battleship actually worked?
