Whether it be the iconic shoot-em-up action of the Halo franchise, the nostalgic feel of catching your first Pokémon or the adrenaline rush of beating down on gods. It’s quite easy to get distracted from the Easter eggs within video games and anime series’ alike. Those with keen eyes or extensive memory may pick up on a “Hey! I’ve seen that before!” moment when they sit down to watch anime or play a game.

When it comes to Dragon Ball, Naruto or even Himouto! Umaru-Chan, one thing is for sure, there are plenty of nods and references that tie in with other video games, anime series and pop culture within it. For instance, one of the biggest fights within the Dragon Ball Super franchise was certainly Jiren vs. Goku, but the most important one that references a past video game villain is Aniraza. Who would have thought that the uncommonly known Hatchiyack would come back to eradicate the super saiyans?

Asura’s Wrath, for example, takes the epic fight and transformation tropes within popular Shonen anime and combines it with the immersion and entertaining nature of God of War and Street Fighter. Even the Pokémon series has alluded to its classic game intros someway or another within the show. Heck, even Blue, Red’s rival in the games, is strikingly similar to Gary Oak, Ash Ketchum’s rival. There are plenty more connections than just these, so be sure to be on the lookout for them when you have your next anime binge or gaming session!
