It’s safe to say that JR Tolkien set the bar incredibly high with his fantasy series The Lord of the Rings. Between the books and movies he really set the standard for the genre and A Song of Ice And Fire author George RR Martin admits to being inspired by his work. But are there some times when his series went from paying tribute to straight up stealing? We’ll look over some interesting parallels between some of the characters and let you decide whether Jon Snow more closely resembles Aragorn or Frodo Baggins.

Although the Iron Throne has no magical powers it functioned very similarly to the One Ring, at least where Daenerys Targaryen was concerned. She may have turned into the mad queen in the end but Arya Stark was able to accomplish something truly incredible and survive to tell about it much like another popular female character from Return of the King. Oh, and do we even have to point out the tons of similarities between Samwell Tarly and Samwise Gamgee?

What do you think about the similarities between these two epic fantasy series? Did HBO manage to pay appropriate tribute to this iconic series or did they borrow way too heavily from certain scenes? Tell us what you think about the fantasy conundrum in the comment section below and give this video a big thumbs up.
