Horror-based games are created for the sole purpose of scaring players and delivering thrills. Then, there are the regular games that toss in horror elements. The unexpected scares can have an even bigger impact and create truly terrifying experiences for gamers. See some of these moments and the levels you may want to avoid in the future.
In the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link is sent down to the bottom of a well for an adventure we wish we could turn back time on. Super Mario 64 is all happy and hopeful until you enter Boo’s haunted mansion and find some instances that will give you nightmares. Max Payne has had a hard life and it’s illustrated by a haunting level that will become ingrained in your mind. The Halo series introduced a parasite known as The Flood and the classic alien FPS turned into a heart-pulsing fight for your life. In Batman: Arkham Asylum, the Dark Knight goes up against the Scarecrow and must deal with some crazy hallucinations in an abandoned morgue. Grand Theft Auto 5 features guns, girls and ghosts.
