This Star Wars Scene Has Been Changed So Many Times!

It’s been decades since Han Solo first shot Greedo in the Cantina. In the intervening decades, George Lucas has taken it upon himself to go back and edit the scene–which was just fine to begin with–over and over and over.
It started with the special edition in 1997, where the scene was rejigged so that Greedo would not only shoot, but he would shoot before Solo, completely changing the dynamic of the scene and Solo’s character more broadly. Not to mention the fact that Greedo’s new CGI hand was so poorly done that it looks two-dimensional.
Fans were furious. Cool-guy Han Solo would obviously have taken the first shot, not just react in self-defense. Remember, this is the same guy who thinks that “I know” means “I love you.” When the movie was put out on DVD in 2004, the scene was, once again, altered. This time, it was a compromise that pleased no one: Greedo and Solo shot at the same time. Greedo simply missed.
Fast forward to the present and the introduction of Disney+ and we’ve got another disaster on our hands. Lucas has put his grubby little fingers back into the scene to add one strange word: Maklunky. This is most definitely not a word in the English language and we don’t know the meaning in Rodian, because the word is not subtitled. The meaning may not be so important, because it seems like it’s just a dig at all the fans who rightly believe that Han shot first.
