While we now have Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker as the most interesting take on the character since Heath Ledger, we can’t forget that another actor took a crack at the iconic role just a couple of years ago. That, of course, is Jared Leto, who gave his all to The Joker in the heavily debated Suicide Squad. While some loved the performance, and the modern design of this classic character, others were not quite as impressed. Especially after learning that Leto had gone to all sorts of strange lengths in order to get into character, fans had high expectations that just didn’t seem to pan out the way they were intended to. Not to mention that Leto’s Joker only appears in about seven minutes of the entire movie!
But recently, director David Ayer came out to say that he actually had quite a different idea for the movie in mind, and that, somewhere in the editing process, it changed dramatically. In a post on Instagram, Ayer cryptically hinted at the fact that he originally intended for the story to be focused a lot more on the Harley Quinn and Joker relationship, and specifically how Harley would find the strength to break free from her puddin’. But, in the end, it seems as though someone from the Warner Brothers studio got involved in the editing process, and all of that changed. He even wanted Joker to be the main villain of the movie, and we all know how that turned out!
