There’s something special about those classic Nintendo games we played as a kid. From Super Mario Bros. to Kirby and the Legend of Zelda to Pokemon, these games just make us feel all giddy inside before the nostalgia kicks in. Seriously, that feeling of nostalgia that comes with playing a game that we were obsessed with as youngsters is all too appealing to pass up. That’s why we see so many remasters of classic games springing out much more now that we used to, with spruced up graphics, refined gameplay, and added extras all there as incentives to give that old title another run around the block.

However, while our favourite classic Nintendo games we played as children all seemed like rays of sunshine, they were often full of hidden backstories. Some of them were very light-hearted and funny while others were quite dark and tragic. Almost every Nintendo classic you could name has something dark and sinister behind it capable of ruining your childhood.

We’re not just focusing on titles developed by Nintendo though as we’ll also take a look at early Final Fantasy and Mega Man games which got their start on Nintendo consoles. There’s plenty of secrets to tell the video game world in this video and we swear we don’t want to ruin your precious childhood innocence, but we’re going to do it anyway. It seems like only yesterday we were given the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Xbox One was released back in 2013 and, despite many complaints from both hardcore and casual fans, the Xbox made a name for itself and soon, more advanced high-end versions became available. We were given the Xbox One S and One X respectively in recent years with the Xbox One X coming out just under a year ago. So the big question is, what’s the next step for Xbox? Is it too soon to start thinking about the next-gen Xbox console? Most would think so since technically we already have multiple versions of the Xbox One in the form of the One S and One X.

However, with rumors swirling about the PlayStation 5 (PS5), there will also be talk surrounding the next generation Xbox. So the big questions on everyone’s mind is how much more can console progress? We’re in the age of 1080p 60fps games, some even hitting the realm of 4K resolution. Can the human eye even comprehend anything more sharply defined? Also, beyond the graphic specs, what will the games be like? The world of downloadable content is changing the game, but will we see a game system that has no physical discs and a 100% online library? Will VR still be relevant in this new generation? These are important things to consider while we discuss the relevant facts, rumors and speculations about the next-gen Xbox console.

Is anything ever truly original? Probably not. But some anime copy others more blatantly than others. And we’re not talking about genre tropes, like that every magical girl anime has to have a transformation sequence and a love interest, or that every harem anime has to have a tsundere, a yandere, an oneesama, etc., though tropes definitely do come into play here.

It’s the entire premise of Sword Art Online – gamers get sucked into an MMORPG, can’t log out, and now live in the game-world – being copied by Log Horizon. It’s the dual buns, rose and wing imagery, and the transformation sequence choreography of Sailor Moon being copied by Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. It’s Fushigi Yuugi’s normal-girl-becomes-priestess plot, seven warriors with marks on their bodies, and character designs being copied by Harukanaru Toki no Naka de. Even the Saw and Harry Potter franchises aren’t immune to anime knockoffs.

Is a rip-off of a series automatically bad? That’s for the viewers to decide. In fact, many rip-off series are considered better than the originals. It ultimately comes down to what you value in your stories. Do you like your anime darker, or do you prefer it more comedic? Do you like romance-driven stories, or would you rather that be a sub-plot? Even something as arbitrary as background music or color palate can make or break an anime for some. But personal preferences aside, it’s always fun to call out the blatant similarities between shows, so here’s 8 of them.
