Marvel movies have their fair share of incredible imagery. Oh, who are we kidding. ‘Fair share’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. With Marvel movies, we’re transported to new worlds and get to see individuals with incredible powers. There’s obviously a lot of special effects work that goes into these movies, but you might be surprised by just how much. In fact, until you look at some of the behind the scenes footage without the effects, you don’t quite realize just how much work is put into these movies.
For instance, with the first ‘Captain America’ movie, how exactly did they make Chris Evans so tiny? Turns out it was a combination of shrinking the actor and using a small, skinny double and replacing his face with Evans’. There are also the amazing Quicksilver scenes in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ Did you know it took over a month to shoot ‘Apocalypse’s’ epic Quicksilver scene? And of course there are a number of elements added to all the Avengers movies, with most of the big action sequences being shot in studio spaces with tons of green screen.
But despite all the green screen, you’d be surprised just how much is practical too. For instance, the portals in ‘Doctor Strange’ were actually practical circles of light on set. The magical effects and sparks were added in post-production. And though Iron Man’s suit is mostly computer generated, there are elements that were built practically. Let’s take a look at some of the other amazing effects the Marvel movies have to offer.
