These Batman Villains Are No Competition

Batman is one of the most iconic DC superheroes, so it’s no wonder he’s appeared in multiple movies with may A-list actors vying to play the role. A superhero needs a supervillain, and Batman has tussled with his fair share of criminals. But a great comic book villain doesn’t always translate well on-screen. It takes well-written dialogue, an interesting plot, cool character design and some passion for the original material for a comic book character to be satisfyingly adapted into a movie character. From films like “Batman Forever” and “The Dark Knight” to “Justice League”, DC has been trying to recreate the Caped Crusaders worst enemies for years. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it definitely doesn’t. If a villain isn’t given a chance to shine and show us their villainous ways, then we end up with character like Talia al Ghul and Steppenwolf, who never fully reach their potential in film. Some of these can be blamed on bad acting, like Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face, while others are the product of bad writing, like Robert Swenson as Bane. Whether it’s campy portrayals like Arnold Schwartzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, serious but lack-luster performances like Jared Leto as the Joker and Halle Berry as Catwoman, or questionably designed villains like Doomsday and the Scarecrow, DC has plenty of mediocre villainous portrayals that they would rather we all forgot.

We live in an era where the box office is dominated by superheroes. Although they may not be flying over our tallest skyscrapers or web-slinging around our neighborhoods, every cineplex seems to be playing at least one new installment of the MCU or the DCEU at any given time. Due to the physical demands of these superpowered roles and the risky stunts in which our favorite characters often need to participate, brave stuntmen and women need to take on at least a portion of the roles. You may be surprised to learn that these stunt performers often might share just as much screen-time as the famous actors and actresses who receive top billing. Join ScreenRant as we salute these 10 stunt doubles who often do just as good a job as the celebrities who get all the credit.

You may be surprised to learn that breakout star, Pedro Pascal, isn’t always under the Mandalorian’s mask. As Captain Marvel and Black Widow, respectively, Brie Larson and Scarlett Johansson aren’t the only ones wearing their form-fitting costumes and kicking evildoers’ butts. And while Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland are famed members of the Avengers team, the demands of the MCU films are just too dangerous for them to fully partake in every fight scene. With Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot is everyone’s favorite Amazonian warrior, but she can’t always jump the highest heights that the script demands. Uma Thurman’s stunt woman on Kill Bill made such an impression that Quentin Tarantino gave her a starring role of her own. And Harrison Ford did a lot of his own stunts in Indiana Jones, but the guy can’t do everything.

The creative freedom of animation allows cartoons to take their stories anywhere — and more times than we could have imagined, many of these cartoons have predicted the future. Pokemon Go! Took the world by storm back in 2016. Well, back in 1999, South Park could see the rise of Pokemon coming and decided to take it on with the episode entitled “Chinpokomon”. The parody of Pokemon included everything from the toys to the video games. Caitlyn Jenner’s transformation from Bruce took the world by surprise back in 2015. Well, not everyone was surprised, especially the writers and animators on Family Guy. YEARS before Jenner announced she was transgender, Family Guy made direct remarks about the former Olympian. Nothing like modern technology to present an easier solution — only to screw things up even worse. One example? The voting machine mishaps in the 2012 Barack Obama and Mitt Romney election. In real life, people were selecting a candidate like Obama, only to have Romney appear on the electronic voting screen.
