Finding Pride in Korea: Hanel’s story

PFLAG Korea is an ally group made up of parents of LGBTQIA+ people. PFLAG runs monthly support groups for parents, children and allies, as well as education seminars on how to best be an ally. This is a story about family acceptance, and how personal allyship can be organized into something powerful when people come together.

Through their role as the founder of YOUth&I, and their regular advocacy work, Steph aims to bring attention to medical interventions for intersex people. This is a story focused on education, destigmatising and the human right to bodily autonomy.

Finding Pride in Singapore: Sam’s Story

Sam Lo is a prominent visual artist in Singapore, who identifies as transgender. Sam’s art captures the conflict between pride for their South East Asian heritage and a need for individualistic expression. Sam uses art as a method to step outside the gendered perspective and tap into explorations and expressions of their own identity. This is a story of individualism, socio-cultural expectations, and a rejection of the binaries that restrict us from living our fullest potential.

Hear their stories of isolation and community, rejection and acceptance, the emphasis on education and de-stigmatisation and the power of unified allyship. They share their stories in the hope of creating a more educated, accepting and happier space for the entire LGBTQIA+ community.
