Will it Drift?: Nissan Leaf – Can emission zero be a sideways hero?

The Nissan Leaf is not rear-wheel drive. It doest not have a massively powerful turbocharged engine. It does not have a hydraulic handbrake and nor is it inclined to smoke up its tyres at every available opportunity.

It is, in fact, Nissan’s family-friendly, front-wheel drive, flagship electric car. As far as you could get from being a natural drift machine.

So what the heck is it doing lining up alongside British Drift Championship competitors?

Well, with a little help in the rear tyre department, we’ll try to answer the question: will it drift?

Promoted: Ssangyong Tivoli – great value to buy and run

Small crossovers have become a major hit in recent years. That’s down to a range of factors including their 4×4-style looks and endless personalisation options – but the biggest factor is that they offer tremendous value for money.

For a similar price to a supermini, you can have a baby crossover that mixes style and space. And one of the most competitively-priced cars in the class is the Ssangyong Tivoli. The South Korean machine is tremendous value to buy and run. Want to know more? Then watch this video.

Prices for the entry-level SE model Tivoli start at £12,950. For that you get a small SUV with air conditioning, seven airbags, an electronic stability programme, cruise control and smart steering.

If you’re in the market for a diesel car, the 1.6-litre Tivoli SE is available from £14,200, and features lower emissions (BIK tax is in the 20 per cent bracket). And if you want the security of all-wheel-drive, the new diesel-engined Tivoli 4×4 diesel is available from £17,199.

When it comes to running costs, the Tivoli is just as competitive. The 1.6-litre petrol unit has an official average 44.1mpg rating, and emits 149g/km, which means annual VED costs of £145.

Ssangyong also provides a five-year, limitless-mileage warranty that covers common items such as wheel bearings, suspension and steering joints, bushes and shock absorbers. Brake pads and clutch friction plates are also covered for a year or 12,000 miles.

For that affordable price, and with those low running costs, you get everything you want in a small SUV: a roomy, rugged, robust and well-kitted crossover.

Promoted: The Ssangyong Tivoli mixes space and style

The Ssangyong Tivoli has been designed to be different – both from the Korean firm’s previous machines, and from its rivals in the small crossover category.

Those differences are clear from a quick glance at the Tivoli’s eye-catching curves, lines and creases – and are reinforced if you spend time in the stylish and spacious interior. To find out more, watch this video.

The Tivoli’s exterior design notes include a piano-black grille, upturned headlights (which incorporate LED daytime running lights) and 18in alloys on the EX and ELX models. It has a pronounced roof angle, complex surfacing on the side panels, and sizeable haunches over the rear wheels.

Buyers can choose from eight paint colours, with the My Tivoli personalisation programme giving them further freedom to create their own distinctive car. Options include five two-tone finishes with a black or white roof, and extra styling packs are available with ELX trim.

Inside, the Tivoli features full leather upholstery – grey or beige on EX and ELX spec, together with front seat heaters. Air conditioning is standard on the entry-level SE trim, while EX and ELX models get dual-zone climate control.

Inside, it’s also clear just how much space the Tivoli has: even taller people will be able to enjoy longer journeys in comfort. And the boot will house three golf bags with the rear seats up.

All this style and space is also tremendous value for money. The Tivoli range starts from £12,950 – and comes with an impressive five-year warranty.

Review: Audi SQ7 driven | Autocar

We try the new Audi SQ7, Audi’s flagship SUV. With 429bhp it’s extremely fast, at £70,970 it’s extremely expensive, and with a radical new 48v electrical system making it more responsive and handle better, it’s extremely interesting.

Here’s what we think of this range-topping Audi 4×4, which will rival the likes of BMW’s X5 M50d and the Range Rover Sport SVR.

Volkswagen Tiguan tested on AND off road | Autocar

This is the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan, the second-generation of VW’s compact SUV. Volkswagen says it “redefines the segment”.

That’s a rather bold claim, so we’ve tested the Tiguan both on road and off road, to see whether it really can beat the likes of the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and other small SUVs and crossovers.
