Ridley Scott’s seminal adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s short story, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” was a groundbreaking work of science fiction moviemaking. Though Blade Runner originally tanked at the box office, it’s a subject of constant discussion in film classes and science fiction conventions alike. It asks philosophical questions, is visually stunning, stars Harrison Ford playing to his strengths… and serves as an interesting object lesson in what a director’s vision brings to the final cut of a movie.
