Turning everyday sounds into music with Tone Transfer

Magenta’s Tone Transfer (https://g.co/tonetransfer) lets you explore machine learning while creating music. Tone Transfer uses a technology called DDSP (https://magenta.tensorflow.org/ddsp) to convert everyday sounds into musical instruments and truly unique sound combinations.

Tone Transfer is built with a smaller machine learning model that generates sounds directly on your device. To run a larger and higher-quality model, check out our Python version in the Colab demo (https://colab.sandbox.google.com/github/magenta/ddsp/blob/master/ddsp/colab/demos/timbre_transfer.ipynb).

Spearfishing in Australia – Adventure Food

Tim McDonald is one of the world’s best at the sport of spearfishing. Like other Australian spearfishermen, he free dives and uses his speargun to target fish while holding his breath without the help of any scuba diving gear. During his years of spearfishing, Tim has had run-ins with great white sharks, bull sharks, marlin, wahoo, whales, and more. This time, Tim is traveling from Brisbane to a remote island near Queensland in search of Spanish mackerel, known for its large size, pretty physique, and for its delicious meat. Tim and his friend Josh take us on their days-long adventure throughout a remote area of Australia to find and capture the elusive fish they crave. By the end, it’s time for them to eat sushi, sashimi, and grilled fish before heading back to Brisbane.

Star Wars: Squadrons Single-Player Review

Star Wars: Squadrons’ single-player campaign reviewed on PC by Tom Marks, also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Squadrons is also available in VR on PC and with PSVR, and an Oculus Quest with a link cable was used for this review.

Squadrons doesn’t end up doing anything too memorable with its charming characters or interesting rival squadron setup, but this campaign still tells an entertaining story and its flight controls hit a sweet spot between accessibility and nuance – all made even better by VR and HOTAS support.
