تميز مطرب الأربعينات من القرن الماضي، فايد محمد فايد، باللون الشعبي في أغانيه، واشتهر فايد بأغنية “حلاوتها زايدة حتة ياكلوها الساعة ستة”، والتي أذيعت في الراديو، وتم تصويرها وعرضها في التلفزيون، وكانت بطلة الـ”فيديو كليب” الراقصة المعروفة نجوى فؤاد.
الطريف في حياة فايد محمد فايد الشخصية، أنه تزوج 38 مرة وكانت منهم الفنانة الراحلة أسمهان والمغنية الشعبية فاطمة عيد.
زواجه الأشهر كان من المطربة أسمهان والذي تطرق له فيكتور سحاب في كتابه «السبعة الكبار» وعندما تصادف وجود المطرب فايد محمد فايد في القدس 1942 لإقامة حفلاته هناك وبنفس الوقت عمله كمدير للجنة الموسيقيىن في اذاعة الشرق الادنى في يافا، تلك الفترة كانت المطربة اسمهان تقيم في القدس وتعمل جاهدة للعودة الى مصر لتصوير فيلمها «غرام وانتقام» إلا ان قوانين الإقامة في مصر تلك الفترة كانت عقبة في عودتها ووجدت الحل الانسب بالزواج من فايد محمد فايد شكليا للتمكن من العودة لمصر واستمر هذا الزواج الصوري لمدة عشرين يوما، هذه الظروف الإجتماعية التي عاشها فايد بالاضافة لعدم حُسن ادارته لمسيرته الفنية جعلته غير قادر على الاحتفاظ بوجوده واسمه في الساحة الغنائية.
كان فايد يتزوج من كل قرية أو بلدة يذهب للغناء فيها، من مختلف الأعمار والطبقات ومن داخل الوسط وخارجه، وأنجب 12 ابنا وابنة، ولم يتوقف عن الزواج إلا بموته في نهاية الثمانينات، ورحل فايد عن عالمنا يوم 27 أكتوبر 1988 عن عمر يناهز 82 سنة.
بداية فايد مع السينما كانت من خلال الفنان «علي الكسار» الذي قدمه في فيلمه «سلفني 3 جنيه» وأفلام أُخرى مثل «بواب العمارة»، «يوم المنى»، «الساعة 7»، طلبه بعد ذلك الفنان يوسف وهبي وضمه لفرقة رمسيس وشاركه في فيلم «اولاد الشوارع» و»اولاد الفقراء» و»بنات الريف» بعض أغنياته في هذه الأفلام كانت من ألحان يوسف وهبي أيضاً، وفي مسرحياته جعله هو من ينهي العرض المسرحي بعد ان كان يوسف وهبي ينهي كل عرض بالطريقة التي أُشتهر بها.
معظم الافلام التي ظهر بها فايد كانت بالغناء فقط مثل فيلم «خطف مراتي» و»اربع بنات وضابط»، من اهم الافلام التي ظهر بها «الكنز المفقود» «اللقاء الاخير» «الفارس الاسود» «لمن تشرق الشمس» «البؤساء» «أشياء ضد القانون» و»الطاغية»،
