Rick and Morty and Gravity Falls are two of the best animated series of the century so far. They’re full of wacky characters and situations and are hilarious, creepy and totally unforgettable. We know this already, but what you might not know is that Rick and Morty’s co-creator Justin Roiland and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch are best friends. The direct result of this friendship is a ton of great Easter Eggs and teasers in each of their respective series. It’s an amazing way to give props to one another and tease fans about these two universes being connected without confirming anything overtly. In this video, we specifically look at the Gravity Falls Easter Eggs hidden in Rick and Morty.
One of the first big hints that these two universes are connected was in the Season 3 premiere (the April Fools Day episode). In this episode, Rick and Morty are walking through a portal and you’ll notice a familiar book in Morty’s hands. You’ll also note the presence of two familiar characters in the background that are meant to reference Gravity Falls’ Pine twins Mabel and Dipper. The physical copy of Journal 3 released by Disney also showcases a number of great Easter Eggs that connect the two universes, including monsters and descriptions of certain encounters. When you delve through the Rickstaverse Instagram account, you’ll find even more hints that the two universes are connected, including three specific objects that appear time and time again.
And that’s just the beginning. Tune in to see the whole list and see if you’ve been able to pick out all these great Easter Eggs.
