Watch: Nearly 10,000 People Ice Fish for Charity | National Geographic

Can a frozen lake surface stay intact with 19,000 drill holes? Every year over 10,000 people descend on a frozen lake in Brainerd, Minnesota for what is billed as the world’s largest charity ice fishing competition. The Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza is completely volunteer run, and all proceeds are donated to charity. Over 19,000 holes are drilled in the ice, and while the goal is to catch the largest fishes, all that are captured are released live back into the water.
