For a guy who has literally gone to hell and back, you wouldn’t think there was much story left to tell. It turns out the God of War series has many more secrets and, hopefully, more games to entice us in the future. We had a blast going through this list to discover some little known facts about Kratos and the God of War series.
Kratos was originally going to be covered in blue warpaint where he would look more like the character in the Eiffel 65 song, I’m Blue, than a vengeful demigod set on murdering a roster of gods. He also looked too much like the Barbarian from Diablo 2, so the design team had to make the necessary changes.
Kratos was also set to play in a digital world of Ancient Egypt, but it was decided that, with the introduction of his son, Atreus, the team wanted to keep it simple. If they did choose Egypt, it would’ve been an incredibly diverse and complex environment with tons of people and an entire civilization. So making Kratos and Atreus go to northern Scandinavia forced them to be the main part of the story without any real distractions besides the tasks at hand.
Also, it’s not just in your imagination, Kratos is definitely a much different character now and he even has a new voice to fit the role. He also can’t swim which might seem a bit odd at first. The design team said there just weren’t enough resources to have both Atreus and Kratos swimming in the game. They decided to replace swimming with a boat so the two could have dialogue during their boat rides. Join us as we check out these secrets and other things you never knew about God of War.
