Marvel’s Hawkeye and Ronin might technically both be Clint Barton, but that doesn’t mean they’re the same! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/ho3Hg6
With the premiere of the Avengers: Endgame trailer, Marvel fans were thrown for a loop by Hawkeye, or specifically Hawkeye’s altered look. Instead of his traditional outfit, he seems to be wearing some kind of ninja garb; and instead of sporting his trademark bow and arrow, he carries with him a katana. What exactly is going on? Was this even in the comic books?
Turns out it is. In the comics, Hawkeye went through a period of time when he donned the mantle known as Ronin. While it’s still Clint Barton behind the mask, there are significant differences between this character and Barton’s other alias Hawkeye. First and foremost, the weapon selection. Where Hawkeye utilizes a bow, Ronin uses many weapons with a focus on his special katana. He’s more of a loner too, opting to work alone instead of with a team; potential sidekicks are nowhere to be found. The Ronin mantle, however, is not exclusive to Barton; it’s been passed down from many heroes, including a certain famous half-human/half-vampire hybrid. While sporting the Ronin identity, Barton’s demeanor darkened too and his outlook was less sunny. It’s entirely possible the Marvel Cinematic Universe might use Barton’s family as sufficient motivation for his switching to the Ronin persona.
These are just a few of the biggest differences between Hawkeye and Ronin and we’ve got plenty more where that came from. Some may catch you totally off guard. Let’s take a look at the entire list and explore the most interesting ones.
